WritePages, LLC uncovers untold histories, sharing stories of Sicilian and Italian Americans in Gloucester during WWII through research and community collaboration. Projects Gloucester's Hidden History of "Enemy Aliens" SERIES LAUNCH I have completed two articles documenting the untold stories of Sicilian and Italian Americans in Gloucester during World War II. After Pearl Harbor in 1941, Italian immigrants across the nation were classified as "enemy aliens" by the U.S. government. Over 600,000 Italian Americans nationwide were forced to register, carry ID cards, and follow travel restrictions. Sicilian and Italian fishermen were barred from the waterfront and cut off from their livelihoods. The first in this series chronicles my grandfathers, Pietro Favazza and Filippo Millefoglie, who emigrated from Sicily to Gloucester as teenagers for a life at sea. With the outbreak of the war, they and many other Gloucester immigrants faced discrimination and restrictions. The second article focused on the impact of the Proclamation 2527 on Italian Fishermen and families living in Gloucester during World War II. If you or your family have personal stories, photographs, or historical insights, we'd love to hear from you. Share your story: Email Maria (Mia) Millefoglie at mmillef@hotmail.com This project is a partnership between Maria (Mia) Millefoglie, Sal Zerilli, and the Down the Fort Documentary and Archive Project, supported by an Awesome Gloucester grant. • WritePages, LLC | Editing Help for Writers

WritePages, LLC provides expert consulting, editing, and storytelling resources for writers and nonprofits, helping refine narratives, secure funding, and amplify impact. MIA MILLEFOGLIE WRITER.AUTHOR.CONSULTANT ABOUT ME I am shaped by the sea. My roots traced back to three generations of fishermen who immigrated from a small village in Sicily to America’s bold Atlantic shores. Raised by an extended Sicilian family in Gloucester, Massachusetts, I first spoke the ancient Sicilian language of my ancestors. My surname, Millefoglie, means “a thousand pages” or “thousand leaves”—a fitting reflection of my journey, one of transitions from the familiar, inquiry and discovery, and my quest to fill blank pages with our stories. I straddle two worlds as illustrated by my work and writing. For years, I worked in the non-profit sector, writing and securing grants to support community needs, publishing "Senior Solutions," and articles on healthcare and technology. Most recently, I have turned to the stories that live within me. My work has appeared in the anthology Our People, Our Stories (Puritan Press 2024), The Stonecoast Review, The Remington Report, Entropy, and the Gloucester 400+ Stories Project. Though I wouldn’t call myself a “country girl,” I live with my husband, Bill, in the woods along the banks of the Mousam River in Kennebunk, Maine. SERVICES WritePages, LLC Amplifying Missions.
